Top Reasons to Be a MATA Member

Listserves

MATA members enjoy the benefit of being able to call on more than 1,300 fellow plaintiff lawyers for advice on case strategy and information on defense experts through one e-mail message which is disseminated to all members of the listserv. Click here for more information on the list serves available to MATA members, along with terms of use.

Legislative Program

Without a doubt, this member benefit keeps the doors to the courthouse open to you and your clients. Injured people in the state of Missouri have no better advocate in the legislative process than MATA. Our legislative committee, leadership, staff and lobbying team review more than 1,500 pieces of legislation each year and lobby Missouri legislators in the Capitol in Jefferson City to protect consumers’ rights.

Fantastic CLEs

MATA’s CLE seminars are regularly touted as the best in the state. Our Trial Tips seminar offers proven trial tips and new trial strategies from top trial lawyers in the state through rapid-fire 30 minute presentations. The Annual Convention seminar includes top-notch presentations by renowned national and in-state trial lawyers.

Publications

MATA’s quarterly magazine, The Missouri Trial Attorney, features relevant articles and tips to help you in your trial practice, as well as information on settlements and verdicts from across the state. MATA also keeps members informed on state and federal legislation of interest through a weekly e-mail newsletter, the MATA Advocate.

Web Site

MATA’s Web site, www.matanet.org, includes a legal search engine, CLE information, and a new legislative action center, among other things. The legislative action center will allow MATA members to keep up to date on legislation of interest to the trial bar and your clients. Beginning in January 2004 MATA’s Web site was connected to TrialSmith depo banks, an online litigation bank exclusively for plaintiff lawyers.

Annual Convention

Affectionately called “MATA Camp” by many, MATA’s Annual Convention attracts nearly 400 trial lawyers from around the state. Not only can you earn most of your CLE credit for the year, but you’ll have a rare opportunity to hear nationally recognized speakers. This time at the Lake of the Ozarks offers the chance to network with colleagues at various activities, which includes a Picnic & Carnival, awards banquet and much more.

Code of Conduct

MATA adopted an anti-harassment policy in 2019 and earnestly asks that members/firms do their best to emulate it or adopt one of their own.
